Pokémon Adventures Volumes 1–12
Begin one of the longest-running Pokémon manga adventures with this Pokémon Adventures Volumes 1–12 collection, bringing together twelve consecutive English-language paperbacks published by VIZ Media.
Written by Hidenori Kusaka, the series adapts the world, locations, Trainers and Pokémon familiar from the games into a continuing action-adventure manga. The first seven volumes cover the Red & Blue storyline, while Volumes 8–12 move into the Gold & Silver era.
VIZ describes Pokémon Adventures as an action-packed manga in which familiar Pokémon game characters come to life on the page. The official catalogue identifies Volumes 1–7 as Red & Blue and Volumes 8 onward as Gold & Silver.
Red’s Journey Begins
The collection starts with Red, a young Pokémon Trainer determined not only to train powerful Pokémon but also to understand and befriend them.
His early companions include Pokémon such as Bulbasaur and Poliwhirl, while Pikachu proves more difficult to win over.
Red’s journey quickly becomes more serious as he encounters Team Rocket, rival Trainers and dangerous situations involving Pokémon research and powerful opponents.
VIZ’s official Volume 1 listing introduces Red’s ambition, his relationship with Pokémon and the threat posed by Team Rocket.
Red, Blue and Green
As the story develops, Red is joined—and challenged—by other important Trainers.
Blue becomes one of his major rivals, while Green brings her own unpredictable personality and skills into the story.
Volume 3 pushes the characters into a situation where Red, Blue and Green must cooperate despite their differences in order to face a common enemy.
This combination of rivalry and teamwork becomes one of the strengths of the early series.
The Yellow Storyline
Volumes 4–7 introduce Yellow, a mysterious young Trainer who becomes involved after Red disappears.
Yellow teams up with Pikachu and begins searching for him while facing increasingly powerful enemies.
The story expands significantly during this stage, bringing together Gym Leaders, Team Rocket and the Elite Four.
VIZ confirms that Volume 7 concludes this stage with Yellow and her allies confronting Lance and the Elite Four.
These first seven books form the complete Red & Blue box-set sequence recognised by VIZ.
Gold and Silver Begin
Volume 8 starts the next major section of Pokémon Adventures.
The story introduces Gold, a new Trainer from the Johto region, and Silver, his mysterious rival.
Gold’s adventure begins with thefts involving Pokémon and Poké Balls, while Team Rocket once again becomes part of a much larger mystery. VIZ officially identifies Volume 8 as the beginning of the Gold & Silver sequence.
Crystal Joins the Story
The Gold & Silver storyline expands again with the introduction of Crystal, a skilled Trainer working to assist Professor Oak’s Pokédex research.
Volume 10 follows Crystal as she begins a mission to catch a wide variety of Pokémon while the legendary Suicune becomes increasingly important.
By Volumes 11 and 12, the story also involves the legendary Pokémon Suicune, Raikou and Entei, along with the continuing mystery surrounding Gold and Silver.
